Janmashtami been celebrated across India with a high spirit. It is believed that between 3200 and 3100 BC Krishna was living on earth.

Rasa Lila a special dramatic enactment of Krishna life featured in Mathura and Vrindavan. Rasa lila re-creates the flirtatious aspects of Krishna’s youthful days People chant Hare Krishna Hare Rama throughout the day.
In Delhi Dahi Handi a playful celebration of childhood of Krishna been presented in different Parts of city. A teams of young men form human pyramids to reach a high-hanging pot of butter and break it. The same event in Tamilnadu been celebrated in the name of Uriadi on Gokulashtami.
Janmashtami is one of the major festival and holidays in India. In north India it is celebrated with full swing. Mathura in Uttar pradesh is known for lord Krishna birth place where Krishna born and Gokul was his playground. So in Gokul and Vrindavan Krishna janmashtami celebration goes upto a week with full of crowd. In Orissa and west Bengal celebrated with full swing. Next day of Janmashtami is called as Nanda Utsav joyous celebration of Nanda Maharaj and Yashoda Maharaani. On that days people break their fast and offer various cooked sweets during the early hour. People sings janmashtami songs with a joy on Janmashtami aarti songs and bhakti songs creates a harmonic effects in the body and mind of Krishna devotees. As Lord Krishna was very fond of sweets, milk and other milk products like butter and buttermilk, so his devotees make sweets of these products to commemorate the occasion. Sweets like Gopalkala, Doodhachi Kheer, Pedha, or Gulabjamun are the major dishes prepared on Krishnashtami. Besides, Shrikhand and Singhare ki Poori are also made in households.
